The preparation of the coat is complex, because after a specially developed formula for Pelikan is made of cotton material in many steps, a striped piece of material that is bent, ground and then cut with a diamond to contour. Then the characteristic double rings are fitted with the utmost precision, resulting in a nearly seamless transition between the materials before the writing instrument is polished to a high gloss. The last step is to mount the slightly springy beak clip with the famous, stylized pelican. The piston filler has a housing made of diamond-finished precious resin. The fittings are 24 kt. gilded. The nib consists of 18 kt. 750 gold and is finished with a rhodium decoration.
The fountain pen has with closed cap a length of 14.6 cm and weighs 34.1 g.
