Good ink creates a clean typeface
Fountain pens are just great writing implements, writing with them is just fun. In addition, the pen and ink typeface is much clearer and cleaner. This applies particularly to writing implements that are equipped with particularly high-quality nibs. If the pen is at the heart of the fountain pen, metaphorically speaking, ink is its elixir of life. In addition to the pen and paper, the ink also influences the typeface.
Ink has a long tradition
More than 5,000 years ago, Egyptians and Chinese wrote "tincta aqua" with colored water. This ink was made from water mixed with soot and gum arabic. Subsequently, substances such as iron sulfate, gall apples, red or verdigris were used to produce ink. While the first inks from soot were still easy to remove, completely dissolved dyes made them more durable. Very special inks were developed from finely ground gemstones, mercury or arsenic trisulfide. Fortunately nowadays, the writing accessories are made without toxic heavy metals or other pollutants.
Modern recipe - wonderful color gloss
The use of modern chemistry significantly improved the inks. Each manufacturer has its own recipes and of course keeps them secret. Basically, modern inks are made from water, the actual dye and a special moisturizer. Depending on the type of ink, the proportion of water in the ink is up to 90%. By using a solvent, the dye that gives the ink the respective color is dissolved in it. The blue ink liquid used in school usually uses so-called triphenylmethane dyes such as Helvetia blue or water blue, which can also be made invisible again with an ink killer. Black soot is often found in black ink, eosin dyes ink red, and acidic indigo carmine is used as the dye to produce green ink. The result is shown in wonderful colors that still shine when the ink has long dried on the paper.
You can find inks in different colors at Mostwanted Pens
Ink cartridges are just as well suited for fine writing instruments as converters that are refilled using ink glasses. There are quick-drying, supple and lightfast and even document-proof inks, which means that they can run only slightly when they come into contact with water. Depending on the manufacturer, inks can therefore have very different properties. If the writing fluid is changed, writing utensils should be rinsed thoroughly with distilled water. Because ink glasses and ink cartridges are indispensable writing accessories, manufacturers of high-quality writing instruments also offer inks specially developed for them. Therefore, in our shop you will find not only fountain pens from Kaweco or Otto Hutt, but also the appropriate writing fluid. Of course, every ink can also be used in every fountain pen. This applies equally to ink cartridges and ink glasses. Find ink and more at mostwanted-pens.com.
