The first sport models in 1911 were round but the basic idea was the same. A fountain pen, which can be carried around in the bag without leaking. So the first Kaweco sport was designed in pocket format. The highlight: By attaching the cap you could extend the pen to a comfortable size. In 1935, the octagonal cap, as known from today, was introduced to the market in combination with the round shaft. The fountain pen of that time was still a piston fountain pen, so equipped with a pull system for ink. Today's fountain pen works with cartridges, but on closer inspection the design elements of a piston fountain pen at the end of the barrel can be spotted.

In the beginning of the industrial age pens were made of hard rubber. Ebonite, as it was also called, was only polished. Even brass was already used for pen parts. But it was more for the trimmings such as clip and decorative rings. Only the cartridge technology made it possible to reflect on other materials since the ink does not directly and permanently come into contact with the metals. So in daily use the brass can develop its natural patina. Around 1550 brass was “cast” in a targeted way for the first time and thus offered a variety of applications.

The Kaweco AL Sport with state-of-the-art EMR technology. During our childhood, we grew up with writing, drawing and sketching on paper. However, the elegance of handwriting was reserved for our hands only. Digital imitation, especially where and with what amount of pressure the pen is placed and glides on a tablet, is a technical challenge. This challenge can now be met with the help of smart technologies. One of them is Wacom’s EMR technology, which is based on electromagnetic resonance. With the help of sensors, an electromagnetic signal is detected, which combined with an alternating grid pattern generates a magnetic field. The magnetic field is reduced to approximately 5 mm above the surface of the glass and can thus register the position of the writing instrument as well as the angle and pressure. Based on this technology, together with Wacom we developed the AL Sport Connect EMR Black as a digital Stylus in the popular shape of a Kaweco Sport made from aluminium. The EMR technology in the grip section of the Al Sport Connect EMR black has more than 4000 pressure levels.
Therefore pixel-exact writing, typing and/or drawing with a suitable software, e. g. Photoshop or Inkscape, are possible. The pen never needs to be charged and is always ready to go. For a long-lasting digital writing experience, we offer spare tips to change, if they got worn with the use.
