The most important characteristics are a simple and artless octagonal design with a handy push button. Long and thin, made of ebonite and later turned of celluloid, the SPECIAL series established as a long-lasting working tool at a reasonable price. Soon the product series expanded through fountain pens cause of the big success. The Kaweco AL Sport is a really tough pen. Traditional design was consequently combined with modern materials. The Kaweco AL Sport is being produced of massive aluminum using CNC machines. Each item is finally being polished and refined with different surfaces. Despite of aluminum it has a solid weight and sympathetic surface feeling. The requirements on the AL Sport are high. Small, however big enough for comfortable writing. Robust but not too heavy. By modern CNC technique and the use of high-quality aluminum today it is possible to realise the AL Sport. Already in 1905 Kaweco manufactured the first writing instruments made of metal. Which was produced with silver or gold plated brass in the past, is today manufactured from the lighter aluminum material.
